The programs of the SPU 教育学院 are distinguished by a vision for igniting hope through four commitments: to serviceleadership in the community, 和 to the growth of competencecharacter 作为教育者. These commitments speak to the idea of an educator as the master of a discipline 和 as someone who finds meaning 和 hope in a professional vocation or "calling."

As a student in the 教育学院, you'll learn in a program shaped by these four commitments. The goal is to prepare you to positively influence diverse learners, families, 和 communities.

service承诺

Effective educators are committed to service, an idea that is deeply imbedded in the language of education. The goal at SPU is to integrate the idea of "vocation" 和 Christian service in a winsome 和 appropriate way in the predominantly secular field of education. 

This need has prompted such terms as "servant leadership," an approach to leadership 和 service in which serving others is emphasized, “service学习”," a form of experiential education that combines occupational 和/or academic learning with service to community. Both of these aspects of service shed light on ways in which SPU c和idates can fulfill their mission of service in an ever-changing world.

对leadership的承诺

Effective educators acknowledge the responsibility of each educator for the learning 和 growth of children. It is inspirational, but also participatory. It includes demonstration of the ability to motivate 和 direct others, to create 和 support principle-based ideas, to accomplish tasks in group situations, to help teams work toward goals, 和 to manage them to completion. Leadership involves bringing groups together to share learning, 和 to construct meaning 和 knowledge collectively 和 collaboratively.

对competence的承诺

Effective educators demonstrate competence in carrying out their respective roles in learning communities. 作为称职的从业者, 教育学院 graduates are expected to demonstrate excellence 和 mastery in their ability to plan 和 deliver instruction, use technology to support the learning of all students, 和 address the diverse needs of all students 和 their communities.

Effective educators demonstrate character, which acknowledges the dispositional implications of teaching 和 learning. 研究生s will be able to motivate 和 lead people, they must have a heart for service to students 和 the community, 和 they must be able to demonstrate significant professional expertise ― all within a framework of strong personal values 和 support for the explicit 和 implicit ethical st和ards for professional educators.
